Hello everyone! It's been a while, I know. I'm finally settling in to work these days, and I'm starting to feel a bit more like I belong here. The people I work with are all very nice, but we haven't really clicked on a personal level at all. I'm hoping to meet some people once we start playing in a band. I think that Justin and I both feel a little lonely. But at least we have each other.
We have been furiously car shopping, and have test driven a large number of cars. Just a tip for anyone thinking of moving to the USA. 1) If you have no US credit history, good luck financing a vehicle in the US. 2) DO NOT cancel your car insurance. We, of course, have not owned a car for the last 3 months, and therefore did not have insurance. Consequently, the insurance companies see you as being "not previously insured" and put you in a much much higher risk category. I know, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It's really going to hurt going from paying for insurance in Saskatchewan at about $50 a month to paying insurance here at about $250.o0 a month.
On a more happy note, Justin and I got our Maryland driver's licenses last week. Mine is a provisional license because I only had my license for less than 6 months before coming here. Yesterday I got a letter in the mail congratulating me on completing all the requirements for the Maryland Graduated Driver's License program, and awarded me my full driver's license! Yay! I managed to avoid 2 years of provisional licensing in Saskatchewan and Maryland simply by moving! :)
We're test driving a car tomorrow that sounds really really promising. Wish us luck! If we buy it I'll be sure to post some pictures.
